I, Jay Blas Jacob Cabrera, am excited and motivated to serve my community as an elected official.

I believe the time is now to have computer coding directly taught to everyone within public education.  The future of our globalized and mechanized economy demands it. There is no reason to wait, and the Palo Alto Unified School District should be a leader in technological education.

Additionally I want to bring 21st century technology directly into the governance of running our school district to allow unprecedented interactivity and participation of parents, students, teachers, staff and community members into the dialogue and decision making process.  Together we can continue to improve our schools to be a model of 21st century technological, scientific, and global education.

Serving as an official on a School Board is the perfect position for me because I have extensive experience helping to run the University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC) as an elected student representative.

I ran and won the second highest position in the UCSC Student Union Assembly as the Internal Vice Chair.  This position was responsible for all internal activities for the campus of over 15,000 students including the student government budgets, and also served as the Chair of the Student Committee on Committees (SCOC).

As the Chair of the SCOC, I oversaw the appointments of all students onto the 100′s of administrative and faculty senate committees that ran the campus.  With this birds eye view, I was able to learn and understand how a university and educational institution actually functions.  I served myself on many committees including the Land Use Management Advsisory committee, the Transportation Advisory Committee, and the WASC Accreditation Steering Committee.

Through my experience working with administrative and student leaders, collaborating with the Chancellor, and helping make our university as sustainable as possible, I have the experience necessary to help take our school district to the next level.  Together we can make the world a better place for ourselves and our children.
